NICE STORY!! Law of the Garbage Truck

Posted in Belief, bengaluru, Communication, Great thinking, Hope, India, life, Thoughts, Tour by nagaje on February 2, 2010

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.

My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, ‘Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!’ This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, ‘The Law of the Garbage Truck.’

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment.

As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they will dump it on you. Don’t take it personally.

Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets.

so … Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don’t. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it! Have a blessed, garbage-free day!

Fatehpur……….. A city of Akbar era…. Enchanting……..

Posted in India, Journey, Places, Tour, World by nagaje on January 4, 2008

My this visit to Delhi was Eventfulllllllllllll…….. More so because of one young guide in Fatehpur …… He was passionate about the whole place having done the same work for 11 years in row.. Younus has never been out of Fatehpur Sikri….

Younus made my visit to Fatehpur …….. a endearing memoir which I would want to relive…….Anyday… .. I made the journey more remarkable by bringing back home memorabilia that was precious…..

Once a small village, Fatehpur Sikri holds a fascinating tale behind its being the capital of Mughal Emperor Akbar. As the legend goes, Akbar, who had no son, decided to seek the blessings of Saint Shaikh Salim  who used to live in the village, Sikri.

The saint prophesied that Akbar would have  son within three years and soon the saint’s foretelling came true and Akbar saw the face of his first son Salim, from his Hindu wife Jodha Bai … the princess of Amber [ Jodhabai’s Palace is befittingly the grandest of all palaces in Fatehpur Sikri ]  She was his most favoured wife and the mother of the crown prince ,whom he named after the saint.

Akbar was so glad that he decided to build his new capital near Sikri where the saint lived in a humble hermitage. and he renamed it Fatehabad (later it became Fatehpur) meaning ‘City of Victory’.

One of the first constructins begun in1951 was the Friday Mosque / Jama Masjid also called Dargah Mosque said to be a replica of main mosque in Mecca….. with Persian & Hindu architectural designs largest of  its kind in India at the time, measuring 168 metres by 144, with a huge inner courtyard.

The Buland Darwaza / Gate of Victory or ‘Sublime Gateway’ is the main Entrance,  was added later to commemorate Akbar’s military conquest of Gujarat. The gateway, which rises to a height of 45 metres, presents an awesome spectacle of isolation, and has exquisite Persian calligraphy inscribed on it.  It says, “ The world is a bridge. Pass over it but build no house upon it, for whoever hopes for one hour, hopes for all eternity. The world is one hour. Spend it in prayer, for the rest is unseen”. No more eloquent epitaph to the Mughal Empire .

Just out side this gateway  is a deep well where the present day  guides and daredevils leap from the top of the entrance in to water just to make a living….

Inside the courtyard there is tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti. … which was earlier constructed with red stone first and was late replaced by Marble … with beautiful hand carved lattice screens / ‘ jalis’  /  tracery …. which are simply awesome.

Total courtyard is bordered by so many rooms earlier used by royal guests / guards .. now few of them are being used for  ” Madrasa  ” for the poor.

From this place you can also view A Barbed Pillar tht is built in the memory of Akbar’s pet Elephant  Hiran… which traditionally was used to crush the head of guilty . It is also said that if the elephant disobeyed the order thrice the victim was Freed !!!

But the brief glory of Fatehpur Sikri came to an end when Akbar left Sikri and shifted to Lahore to escape the water scarcity in Fatehpur. The abandoned city then slowly started to see the signs of negligence and never regained its lost glory again. But history never forgot the city and now it is one of the most visited tourist destination and is now one of the World Heritage Site in India

Though the story does not end here ………. It made my day… in those three hours.. I spent at Fatehpur …. I travelled on a horse cart .. with an horse named…..” Raadhey “..

Totally Great experience 🙂

Saint mary’s Island!!!

Probably this is the third time I have visited this place and and it felt  like home coming!! No doubt that Mangalore can be extemes any day… hottest summer days… pouring non stop  rainy days……  salty   🙂 breezy winds… and god knows whats winter at mangalore I have not visited …………

[ Food for thought… I can make my next trip in winter to fill this gap 😉 ]

Udupi is a small district with ethereal beauty of lord Krishan..Oh yes …Its the same Udupi of “Udupi Hotels” world wide famous 😉 ….. It’s about  from Mangalore and 10 Kms from this place is  “Malpe”  Basically a fisherman’s heaven [ You got to adjoust to the  “fish ” it just smells Fishy 🙂 ]  Malpe also has one of the oldest tile making establishments!!… What’s more Malpe is a natural port!!!

Malpe…great picnic spot with the long streching endless gloden virgin beach…. Gently swaying palm trees……. enthralling gurgle of sea…….. clear blue sky…. makes it more enchanting !!!!!

Seven nautical miles from Malpe beach is a delightful getaway…. raechable by a simple ferry-ride across sea ” Saint mary’s  Island “ ….. its simply heaven by beauty……. not weather…… Though the authorities do not allow to land on the Island when there are heavy winds across the sea but worth a visit and believe me it beckons you with those salty sweet breeze ………..  every time to go back….

Saint mary’s Island

On the whole Island you find massive , natural, volcanic, hexagonal shaped pillar like rocks grouped together in various numbers and sizes…….. They are a feast to a nature lovers eyes…

Rocky port

The sea between these rocky Islands and the shore is a very safe place for anchorage even in the rough stormy  weather….

Believe me either that you will not want to return back from there or keep returning back to that heaven always

Tourism !! Boon or Bane???

Posted in Thoughts, Tour by nagaje on March 23, 2007

India is one country which has great heritage that can be used by the tourism department to tap its potential to greater worth!

No doubts about it.. its a rare find to get to see Dessert festival of Rajasthan….  Old city of Mandu maharashtra…. Kerala for its ayurveda….One seven wonders .. great Taj…..Boss you can not put a barrier to this list …….Such is the natural mine in this country!!

But these days hype is not just about the tourism alone but lots of frill added to explore the better capacity of Brand India ……….In the past few decades other forms of tourism, also known as niche tourism, have been becoming more popular… Like Medical tourism…..

Medical tourism in India is one of the best options available to people across the globe. Millions come to India every year to get treated and then enjoy their recuperative holidays across India. People from different walks of life cut across America, United Kingdom, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Europe, Maldives, Germany and numerous other countries come to India to have their treatments done with peace of mind.

Why not ?? These services are economical too and what more do you want .. When you are at Nature’s Own Lap at its rustic beauty to get rest!!!

But worry is the new trend thats being seen these days Marriage Tourism  🙂 !! Raising brows?????  Don’t……….  lemm’e explain  !!!

People all over the world are finding the Palatial beauty of the bygone Indian kingdom an luring  arena  to take their nuptial vows!! Oh yeah !! It becomes even more easier if either bride or groom  belongs to rich indian family that the Papparazzi_India  will ensure they track every sneeze you make and showcase in  the major dailies!! great isn’t !!??

Another  story!! ……….. Orphanage tourism !! Great celebreties across the world visit our Poor_India either at slums or at orpahanages and make a contribution to get to headlines !! We see poor kids so happy to see a Phoren Face……

But how far are these contributing to the growth of India in what so ever way?? We need to have a tidal wave of change and not these snippets… and what I fail to understand is the larger than life blown up image of all these presented to us!!

Where are we heading?? !!! Mystery!! to look forward to!!
